Developing an STS perspective on design

1) What is Science and Technology Studies (STS)?

a. Typically we think of science and technology as something that has an impact on society. Less obvious is that society has an impact on science and technology. It works in both directions; a “dialectic” or feedback loop.

b. Not just tech versus culture, but nature too: a "trialectic" or three-way feedback system:

c. STS is dedicated to creating a better understanding of this trialectic loop, and to apply that understanding to contemporary problems.
